Our Installation Process

Our Installation Process – Professional, Trusted, Lifetime Guaranteed

Great flooring only performs as well as the installation behind it. That’s why every Kiss Carpet job is done by the same certified, professional installers we’ve trusted for years — many for decades. They follow the Carpet and Rug Institute’s CRI 105 Residential Standard on every job, so your floor stays beautiful and ripple-free for life.

16 Real-World Flooring Facts Every Northern Michigan Homeowner Should Know

  1. Seams are normal — and never completely invisible. We place them in the least noticeable spots possible.
  2. Power-stretching is required — All our installers power-stretch every carpet job to prevent wrinkles and ripples forever.
  3. Shedding is normal — New carpet sheds loose fibers for the first few months. Regular vacuuming stops it quickly.
  4. Sprouting happens — If a single tuft sticks up, snip it level with scissors — never pull it out.
  5. Pile reversal / shading is not a defect — Plush carpets can look lighter or darker from different angles. It’s the nature of cut-pile, not a flaw.
  6. Wrinkles or ripples? — Call us immediately. We’ll send our installers back to professionally re-stretch at no charge under our lifetime labor warranty.
  7. New carpet smell clears fast — Open windows and run fans during & after install. It’s gone in 24–72 hours.
  8. Footprints & vacuum marks show on plush styles — Textured, frieze, and loop styles hide them best.
  9. Stain-resistant ≠ stain-proof — Act fast on spills for the best outcome.
  10. Blacktop/asphalt tracking — Can discolor light vinyl or carpet. We’ll warn you if your driveway is fresh.
  11. High heels & heavy furniture indent — Use coasters and wide casters to prevent permanent marks.
  12. We seal every seam — With proper adhesive to stop edge ravel and delamination for life.
  13. Old black mastic can bleed through — We test for it and quote removal if needed before we start.
  14. Furniture moving — We move most pieces. Grand pianos, gun safes, or 100-gallon aquariums need specialty movers — we’ll connect you with the best.
  15. Doors may need trimming — Thicker flooring can prevent doors from swinging. We re-hang doors but do not plane or cut them — we’ll refer an excellent carpenter if needed.
  16. Ventilation is your responsibility during install — Open windows & doors or run the furnace fan to clear new-product odor quickly.
