Ken Roberts never forgot the words of motivational speaker Earl Nightingale: “Keep It Simple Salesmen.” In fact, the advice made such an impression on Ken that he and wife Kathy decided to use it when they named their business.
Kiss Carpet Design Center not only carries Nightingale’s words in its name, but the philosophy has carried through in the way the Roberts’ do business.
Kiss carpet opened in March of 1986 in Mancelona and has expanded that location three times to meet the growing needs of customers. They also have beautiful showrooms in Traverse City and Harbor Springs. People used to ask Ken why he built a store in the middle of nowhere. His answer? “It’s the middle of everywhere!”

As a family owned business that opened our doors 38 years ago in Northern Michigan, we are extremely proud of the relationships we have built over time with our customers and employees, treating all like family.

Emphasizing that installation is equal to, if not more important than the product itself we want to ensure our customers are aware that even the highest quality product is prone to fail and may not be warranted if improperly installed. We warranty our installations fully with the use of certified technicians, and should our customers ever experience a concern with their installation, we remedy the situation to their satisfaction in a prompt and professional manner.
